The Journey: Getting a Job

as some of you may know from my previous posts, I am trying to get a job at the corporate offices or at a retail outlet of petsmart. I thought it may be useful or at least interesting to many of you if i cataloged my experiences along the way. it may be quite awhile between posts but ill try to keep this up to date.

the first step: I contacted the career services at my univeristy and they inturn contacted petsmart's home office to get information on the best way to get my resume to them. We also inquired as to the best time to begin any sort of work; considering I will be graduating in December 2007.

So now i wait for a responce to plan the next step. (fingers crossed)

How about phoning the VP of Operations and offering to take him out to lunch in exchange for his insight on the company and how you might be a valued addition to the team. I'm sure they would apreciate seeing some more initiative than simply letting a college placement councillor do the leg work.

Have your cover letter, resume and interview answers ready....Ask one of the moderators to be a referrel.....

I do have a resume and cover letter ready. Their web site mentioned that they have a college recruiting program and to contact our career services about it, so i felt it best to follow that road. seeking out a refferal from a moderator or administrator is a great idea.

the career services representitive just got back to me today. by talking to their internship director through career services i was able to get a special code to use. this code will identify me as a college recruit for the internship program. this will hopefuly narrow that possibility of a mis-communication of who i am or the job im seeking
