First off i want to say, i have to AGREE and do BELIEVE, there is a need for a CARE/MANUAL/INDEX for CIcHLa KeePers... so im not here to be COMPETATIVE in any way with other peacockBASS owners (cichla) or MFK COMMUNITY..., i just wanna try and give it a shot:D... if thats okay... SINCE we are a COMMUNITY/MEMBERS/FORUM on MONSTERFISHKEEPERS.COM i though it would be GREAT if we started a STICKY by THE DISCUSSION of : EXPIERIENCE, LIFE, TANK SIZE/DIMENSIONS, DECORATION (FAKE/LIVE), AGRESSIVENESS, TEMPERMENTS, WATER QUALITY, WATER CHANGES(per week/month), FILTRATION, PERSONALITY/CHARACTER, SPECIAL MOMMENTS, HEARTBREAKING MOMMENTS, SPAWNS:D, WILD CAUGHT/FARM RAISED:D, MEDICATIONS (prescribed as needed or over the counter), COLLECTION OF SPECIES... etc.;) i think you get what i mean:D... right..lol.. so let go by the list above.. if i missed anything pls, add... and believe me there will be alot for ALL of YOU too ADD!!! thats way this thread should be INTERESTING because we are ALL going to add to this with our EXPIERIENCES with cichla by sharing with what you NOTICES while housing these BEASTS!! so,as the HEADER SAY: THE JUMP OFF:
lets begin with asking some questions/discussions that maybe all of you expierience/encountered and notice through the caring/housing process..
i hope all f you can share the same thoughts and expierience..

this thread WELCOMES EVERYONE!!!(monsterfishkeepers/community/members.., even GUEST or the ones playin the part:ROFL:) sign up, and JOIN... >>> FREE membership..:))
so please post!!!

1. monoculus:
agressiveness: 8
size:(thers so many different variants. so "idk"?? it varies!!
ph levels:5.5-6.3 (imo)
temp:82-86

my EXPIERIENCE'S and discussion:
monoculus, with expierience with these guys i noticed that they are very GOOD eaters they would eat until the last drop is inn, and tend to be unseen until another fish approaches territory or feeding time... what do you guys think? do you feel the same about that? also colors seem to appear at sizes of 7-9inches.... i do belive monoc's are schooling fish alway better with a pair or more...? as well as other sp..?
(pls. relate and share comments).....

ocellaris, all i have to say is boy ohh boy, they are aggressive... doesnt matter who there up against its either they try to punk you or your gettin in my belly... lol, like said before they are defitely better in a pair or more.. i noticed colors at the size of 6inches.. how about you guys? are yours agressive toward other fish... to me they are very skittish at first but slowly adapts to sorroundings pretty quick...

ph levels:5.5-6.3 (imo)

my EXPIERENCE'S and discussion:
WOW... this is a very beautiful sp. i rate them at a higher aggressiveness level is because they are AGRRESSIVE!! another reason why they are so beautiful is because at theyre growing stages they show alot of character.. starting @5inches they go through a phase of speckles that develope's theyre green body sheen and rosettes are just undescribable when youre witnessing this process! i do belive they are very picky eaters and and grow very slowly.. dont get me wrong they will out grow your tank in NO time.....

i would say this would be very helpful to those novice peacock bass keepers...who are indeed new to the kind of fish. They would need to know all of the specs on keeping them to assure they give their new cichla the best healthy home and with adequate space to live long and healthy.

Touch it up, clean it up a little bit. The intro is hard to get past. . . Its off to a great start though!!! Keep at it and it may just happen!! ;)

Sad thing is, most stickies that have any sort of informational value are ignored by the majority of members....

For Cichla Orinocensis, I would give it a 10 for aggressiveness...they can be aggressive when not breeding/spawning but once a pair is made, they can be very deadly with the amount of power of sheer strenght and body muscles plus the agility they got...can kill an unsuspected tankmate...like from what Dieselmack told me the other day with his Old Orino Pair...had killed all his fishes from most of the other Cichlas, his full grown adult oscars, his pair of severum...only thing left from remembrance was his catfishes and his azul and another cichla. I agree with size being 24"+ (26-28" to be exact) Ph Levels would be anywhere 5.5-6.5 would be preferrable. Temperature should be 86-88 degrees with youngs under 5" IMO as they are very prone to Ich at that young stage, but temperature may be lowered to 82-84 when they get bigger but shouldn't be lower than 82 degrees in my opinion so we have less worries of either the larger Orinos getting Ich. For tank size it would be advise to have a tank of 200+ gallons for young adults but 300+ for full grown Orinos.

we all need to add to it but a good start.. when i get back from maryland i will add my 2 cents

what i will add and stress more than anything is in keeping these fish water quality is a MUST! i went through several Pbass before i got my tank correct.... Proper temp and PH, Nitrates all very important from JUVI to Full grown. And...any tanks i highly Suggest the FLUVAL FX5 it saved my ***... and most of all ENJOY your fish...

lol water quality is mostly my main priority aswell as any other fishkeepers who cares alot about their fishes, including Cichlas

well the reason i said that is because i have had and still have two fish that will live through anything... my gar and jurapari will live through bad water...
