Howdy,

At first, there were 5. After poor shipping and disease (fortunately I used a 40 gal breeder as quarantine tank), make that minus three.

What followed was a lot of beating up and lots of scales on the bottom of the tank. Overstocking distributes aggression, right?! Okay. Then make that three again - couldn't find more. Nice try. Wasn't so. The new guy went into hiding. Not acceptable. I owed it to Matt to change things around. Here's the key to NGT world peace

Before

After

Anybody see a dat? Nope, me, neither. I also need some orange paint. I have yet to see these guys color up. But then, it's only been 11 weeks and hundreds of feeders. I am so happy, I actually thought about feeding them to my wolf...

On the bright side, I'll set up my 220 gal in the next couple of months. No dividers. Plenty of space. No more feeders. Eat shrimp and co-exist or become wolf-food.

Anybody else enjoying their dats as much as I am?

wolf food :(, I'll take them off your hands :)

I'm enjoying my ngt, but thats just because hes in a 360 with no other datnoids O.o.

Sorry to hear about your chaotic 11 weeks, Kinda sounds like mine but with mangrove snapper :irked:

Dats can sometimes be frustrating, as they are they don't act like your "typical" aquarium fish. You can't mess with them too much or things just become worse. It takes dats time to get used to their conditions. Sometimes a very very long time. Sometimes a short time. Overstocking does distribute agression, but I would suggest at least in the 5-7 range would be the minimum. They also don't have to be the same species. I know widebars are non-existent, so get some cheaper dats like thinbars, indos and silvers are actually nice too. Also try adding an active fish like an aro or some barbs or some type of silver dollars to lure them out of hiding. GL ;)

Just got my NGTs from John (jlnguyen, GREAT GUY) and they doing pretty good. Hopefully they don't go with the flow and just eat feeders. Hopefully they'll eat pellets or frozen food. I'm sorry for your loss.

By the way my silvers still hasn't colored up after three weeks so I definitely feel your frustration. At least they're eating pellets though.

Sorry you've had so many problems HK. Hopefully they learn the ropes.

Oh man, that sucks...sorry to see you're going through all of that.

I'm going through a little bit of an issue with some ATs I recently bought. Most of them had cataracts and looked like they haven't eaten in months. I also used a 40 breeder for a QT...I'm 99.9% sure I'm going to lose 1...maybe 2 out of the 6...they look like crap.

I hope they turn around for you in the end. If not, they can always have a home in Massachusetts.

Thanks a lot, guys! I just had to vent ...

Yeah, that's why I ordered 5 to begin with. Who could've guessed that three would kick the bucket (literally). But frankly, I m not overly interested in spending more $$$ on fish that suck... :shakehead For now, I'm not gonna get any more. Dats would have some serious convincing to do to get me interested again...

I actually saw a school of Chalceus macrolepidotus at my LFS... If I remember correctly, you have some experience with them yourself?! But they'll have to wait until the big tank is up and running again.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Sadly but truely, QT is the only way to go! And a 40 is just the right size.

Sorry for your loss bro. Ngts are a little harder to care for than other dats. I hope they color up for you. I'm sure once the remaining settle in you'll love them! Good luck
