As I write this I’m going to be honest, I’m choking back tears.
Many of you that have been on this forum for a while know me and my fish.
I have been struggling with this for over a month now.
My big male Festae has had to be put down.
He came down with what I first thought was bloat but as time has passed and I have tried dozens of treatments for Epsom salts to feeding peas to antibiotics (literally 5 different kinds) to parasite medication.
He only continues to get worse I could only assume it was terminal illness.
His abdomen became very swollen but he remained neutrally buoyant the entire time.
Despite this as a last effort I tried to release any pressure with a sterile needle with no luck.
I am truly devastated.
I always promised the good folks who were interested in this fish that I would document his true size and weight as best I could when the time come.
I will keep my word. As soon as I’m able I will post some pictures and measure him.
I never really name my fish. But as I started earlier I tried to treat his affliction. Part of that was contacting a vet for help during this process the vet and pharmacy needed a name for records.
So I said the first thing that came to mind!
Jack. Was his name. So Good bye. Jack you will be missed.

Sorry for your loss

So sorry for your loss man! That was an awesome fish by the looks of him! As a fairly new member to MFK, I can't say I've gotten to know this fish very well, but I'm sure he was a monster! R.I.P.:(

Awe man.. Sorry for your loss!

Hold old was he? I'm wondering if it was some type of organ failure. Things you really have no control over.

This is my assumption. Cancer maybe? I don’t know.
He was at least 9 maybe 10. I got him as a 1” fish in early 2009
