Oh god, do I have a story about those bastards. I had a fastlane tag back in the day. Some of you REALLY oldschoolers may remember this.
I was driving back and forth through Boston, thinking that they were deducting the $4 total it cost me to drive 3 miles back and forth to visit my friend at MIT.
One day, I got a few letters in the mail from the Mass Pike Association. They were photos of my car, my license plate, and a $50 fine, each. I started getting 20 or so of them a day for a month. I tried calling them, and the bastards never answered the phone. So, I drove 40 miles to their Auburn MA headquarters to explain to them that there was some sort of mistake, and that I didn't owe them $5000. There was a nice 500 lb lady on a personal call, who kept waiving me away. The headquarters. One customer service agent. Great huh?
They explained to me that I had to fill out each and every violation on the back and return it to them. Very pissed, I drove home, and spent the entire ****ing day filling out those god damned forms. I returned the next day, to see that same smelly 500 lb vagina on a personal call, probably trying to get a loan for a stomach stapling (I may be fat, but this ***** made me feel better). Same routine of brushing me away, while on the phone. I had two large black trash bags filled with the violations. I had absolutely had it. I dumped them on her desk, and said "GET OFF THE PHONE, NOW." Immediately, the head of the office came out and began screaming at me that I was out of line. So far, I had driven over 100 miles to try and resolve this, because nobody would answer their phone. Immediately, I pulled out my cell phone and began recording his tirade. He claimed that it was not his fault my equipment that they provided to me was defective, and that I owed them $5000. He then threatened me with physical violence. He admitted that they were a private company running a public highway, and didn't care if they were screwing the consumer, and that he was calling the police. He then stated that he would have the entire office lie and say I assaulted him. Again, this was all being recorded.
Police came. He started his tirade with the Auburn police, and his officemates were backing him up 100% on his lie. I stood there smiling. One of the police turns to me and asks "Why in the hell are you so happy if you're about to be arrested?"
"M'am, I've recorded the whole thing, and I can prove 100% that he, and his office are guilty of filing a false police report, and scamming me out of thousands of dollars I do not have".
"Take the recorder out of your pocket, very slowly".
I did, and I played the recording to the police. The manager turned beet red. The cops said "You, in the building, with us, NOW". I stood outside, smoking a cigarette, feeling rather triumphant that an 18 year old kid pulled a fast one on a large money making corrupt state agency.
The cops came back out, and said "They've agreed to drop all finds if you'll turn in your transponder".
"Oh, you mean the thing that isn't working that they claim isn't their fault that they sold me defective equipment? Here you go!"
I transfered the recording to my computer, and sent it to the Channel 7 WHDH investigative team (Hank Philipi Ryan), and the Boston Globe. I wasn't mentioned by name because I didn't have permission to record the conversation, but I wasn't the only one this had happened to. Within the next few weeks, there was a large "shift" in management, aka, they got fired. Vindication rocks. I'd post the audio for you here, but it's on my tower in South Carolina, a thousand miles away.
