I've only heard of flowerhorn people ever doing the mirror trick so yes, its fine to do on flowerhorns. Don't do it 24/7 though, maybe only 4 hours a day. I wouldn't bother with it. Those guys have decent heads already. Just keep up the waterchanges and feed them right.
It's useless, and also temporary. If you want your FH to have the biggest sized kok and colors as a long term, the best way is to have them ALONE in the tank without seeing ANY FHs and other tankmates including himself(mirror).
Looks like they are at their 100% kok size at the moment, you can only hope their kok will get bigger as they get bigger.
