when I had one clown loach it use to swim out and not hide, now that I have 5, they are really active or hide in the driftwood, if I get 5 more will this calm them down a bit?

Cls are not really considered a calm fish. They, when happy, are constantly on the move searching for food and just doing what loaches do. Not to say they don't stop ever, they need to rest a little and the DW is perfect.
