I've set up a new 300L/ about 80gallon planted aquarium and i would like 2 know which fish are the most caring parents, anything but discus, i cant afford them and im not a very big fan.

Any suggestions and photos if you like, im no good with scientific names, so photos would b great, oh and not a necessity but i would like 2 make it a community tank not that it matter cause im undecided, bottom feeders are more then welcome, i dont have a clue about which fish are caring parents so any help is very welcome.:headbang2

Geos and eartheaters? Most cichlids that mouth brood?
Plecos are cool, they will fan the eggs with their tail, and not let fry escape from the cave, although doesn't sound what you are looking for.

I really enjoyed breeding my N. Venustus... the female would let all the babies out of her mouth but at the slightest hint of danger every one of them would swim back in her mouth to safety....but after 11 days you have to separate them because the fry just get too big to fit into the females mouth anymore.. heres a pic of some of the fry grown up... the males are always colorful and females are giraffe pattern.. heres a pic of young male and his young female sibling;)...

if your just looking for something that will breed, then convicts are the way to go.
they are pretty caring parnets and they will breed regardless of conditoins

but they are not community fish so maybe port cichlids or some kind of apistos, they are fairly easy to breed

post some pics of the tank

Well 2 b honest, the weirder looking the fish the better, im undecided as 2 what i want 2 do with the tank yet, community tank would b great, but then so would a predator tank, im very undecided...lol, why not just make it any type of caring parental fish.

i do not want to derail his thread especially that he does not seem interested in the venustus but you can get alot of info by looking through the african reef section... lots of others too...:D
