:irked: Alright I have some beef with the new filters out of the box!! I have no problem with the filters themselfs, but when I was setting one up today at work, I had to return the filter to the store and figure the set up there due to the fact that it kept sucking air. Here is the problem with the new parts:

1: There are all these little pieces that make up the intake pipe. 7 pieces that make up the intake.

2: if you put the inside tube too far up the part that is the bridge over the tank side wall it breakes the seal and starts causing air suck.

3: Everything is done with o rings that have the potential to break down within the year and screw your filtration.

I simply replaced the intake with an older style and it worked fine. This wasted 2 and then some hours of my time. I was really pissed off with this new setup. :irked:

god i hate filters that require too much set up ..

On all my canisters (Eheim included) I toss everything from the hoses on up in the trash right out of the box. I've never been satisfied with the cheap parts the manufacturers give you. I plumb all my intakes and returns with black PVC pipe. That way I can design my system any way I want and not be limited by what comes with the filter.

I've never had a problem with any of my eheim O-rings wearing out. Keep in mind that most faucets on the market use at least half a dozen O-rings, and they usually do not break down in less than 10 years.

Plumber are you using pvc or abs?

PVC

i never had any problems with any of my filters either. when i opened the box of my pro 3, it was just easy to follow instructions and get the thing running. took me like 10 mins to set it up.

Setup on the pro 3 was a breeze, the manual lays it out for you quite well. I personally think it was easier to setup my 2080 than it was on a 404.

I usually have no problems ether but I am really not happy with the new intake design! The way I see it, the more unneccary parts you put into something the more chance of something going wrong.

why would something go wrong, all you need to do when you clean the filter is unplug the connector. if you do that normally nothing can go wrong.
