So i'm new to this forum and pretty new to the fish keeping i have a 36g bow front tank and currently have an oscar housed in there (i know its too small of a tank, i got him from petsmart and they said i only needed a 30g tank, LIARS!!!) I should have did a little research on that one, lesson learned. I want your opinions on some good stocking ideas for the tank when i upgrade the oscar to a bigger. Thanks everyone

36 bow is pretty limited, you could try doing a planted tank with an angel fish and some small schooling tetras, but like you said your first step needs to be to grab a 75gallon for that O

Are you into:

Color?
Schooling fish?
aggressive fish?
fish with personalities?
Keeping several fish that get along well?
Odd/Rare Fish?

What is your decoration/setup like? Some fish look better/are happier in different environments.

I plan on getting a 75g tank soon, that was my next step. Hopefully in a couple weeks. I like unique fish, aggressive, and schooling. I like the bichir's but i dont think i could keep one in that size tank.

Exodons: You need a good school to keep them from killing each other, and then they act like little paranha swarming food. Usually found at about $10 per fish. If your not familiar youtube "exodons" or "buck toothed Tetra".

I love my dwarf gourmais. Not sure if you can fit a couple regular gouramis in there. Angels and Discus if they can fit would be nice.
