They don’t nip like tetras. My t. Pasionis actually have trailers now. IMO, this is a good reason to keep Livebearers over tetras as tank mates.
These green swordtails are the biggest I’ve ever had. Others I had didn’t have spots and maxed out at 3”. These are close in size to size to my thorichthys and look 4”+. My largest male might be close to 6” with the tail. Always hard to get a good pic of him. I’m guessing these x. Helleri are not hybrids like most green swordtails are.

Agree with you all. They are very interesting fish. Especially their interactions with cichlids. They are very bold at this size. Wondering if eating a more meaty diet has anything to do w/ the size. They love dried krill.
My mollies on the other hand love algae. I have LFS gold mollies (hybrids) and one p. Mexicana. Had six male mexicana but they killed each other off. Even in a 150g I can’t keep multiple males due to aggression.

Steve, your swords look just like otapa swords to me.

Thanks! I kind of thought they look like them, but didn’t buy them as otapa swords. I only paid $2 USD for them, so I guess I got lucky :) I have a 25g with a breeding pair with lots of fry. Once they get big enough, they go in with the cichlids.

I brought 6 Blue wagtail platys for cycling the tank, then planned to rehome then. I ended up keeping them and adding another 3! They compliment the electric blue Jack Dempsey nicely. I've also found they help encourage shy fish out more - and their fry is a constant natural food source. Win, win, win.
