I picked up this WC Texas cichlid from a friend.
He caught it in a river near El Paso when it was tiny, brought it home and raised it in his tank. After bringing it to Colorado, it's now in my care.

It's currently about 6" TL.
Check out the bluish green pearls.
When he is relaxed his head looks more red.
If I didn't know that it was wc, I'd think it was a red texas hybrid.
Sorry about the water spots.

it cant be pure maybe tex x bp

Might be the angle of the pic, but it looks sorta like a texas/jd?

No offense really but I'm not sure it's even a Cyano. How come it doesn't have any pearls on it's face and head? It kind of looks like a Jack Dempsey. Red Texas?

Your friend told you it's an F0 Cyano?

pearls are to big to be a cyano. maybe your friend had it in a tank with others and mixed up the wc tex with this one.

looks like it could be 2 things...
both are hybrid options... lol
one... could be a cheap low quality beginning stages of a red texas
two.. could be a kamfa flowerhorn

My sentiments exactly. It looks nothing like the cyano's I've seen. I thought it was a low quality red texas also. But he swears he caught it in Texas. He claims its F0.

It could be a hybrid that he was keeping with his F0 cyano because he said it was tiny when he brought it home. I'm not sure. Nevertheless, I still think it's a pretty fish. Even, if it may not be pure bred.

Sorry, this thread might have to be moved to the hybrid section. ;)
