Well I am going to be getting my 55 gallon up and running. I need to pick out what I will do for filtration. I was also wanting to take one of the established HOB on my 125 and replace it with A new Eheim 2215 and then place that HOB on the 55 to skip cycling.

Here comes the questions. My first question is if I take a HOB off of my 125 (current filters are Penguin 350, Whisper 60, Rena Xp2 and Sponge on a powerhead) will it create a mini cycle? Should I put on the Eheim 2215 for a while and let it establish before I remove one of the HOB's? How long would it take for the Eheim to be good to go?

Unlikely that you'll create a mini-cycle if your tank is well-matured. All of the surface area of all the stuff in there is covered in bacteria and there should be plenty in there to keep going.

In your shoes, I'd connect the 2215 to your current tank for around a week and then hook it and the HOB up to your new tank until you're convinced that's past cycling. The more water you can transfer from your old tank to the new one the better. In fact, when you do a water change on your big tank, just syphon out all or most of the water you need for the new one directly into it. Doing that should help you skip cycling.

Sounds good. I just set up the 2215 to my 125. I will leave it while I am on vacation and when I come back I will decide what I am going to do. Thanks for the response!

I'd use thepenguin and a sponge filter(after keeping it in the est. tank a couple of weeks),then your set for filtration on the new tank.
