i have had my L018 for over 1.5yrs and it has gone from 2" to 3.5" maybe 4"...it has doubbled or more in mass...i feed it potatoes and a few other things...it wont eat much for veggies just potatoes...i try other things, cucumber, squash, peppers...it just ignores them...any thoughts...

L018 are normally very shy, and being nocturnal will probably feed at night when its all dark and quiet, they will also graze on any organic growth on your tank decor.
the fact that he has grown means that he is eating fine so dont worry too much.
they are ridiculously slow growers, i've had baryancistrus that have hardly grown at all (1/2" a year) but still perfectly healthy
 
Sometimes they are just that way. I have a common that has only grown an inch in 6months. He just now pushing 7inches but he is well fed.

interesting...i have also found out(the hard way) that they have some wicked stabbers that come out when touched...they are like a mace...
