The snatch and run!

All of my polys (2 sens, 3 ropes, del, ornate) grab a piece of food (bigger food like earth worms and market shrimp) and then take off and hide. When they swallow it... they come back, snatch a piece, and run away again.

Are mine the only ones that do this??

I've seen that behavior too, and I think yours is kinda scared of losing its food. It usually happened to my bichir that likes to hide, and every time he get a food that is bigger to swallow it will snatch and hide and not share it with other fish. They will sometimes lose that kind of behavior once it start to hang out in the open.

Ive seen my bichirs do that.

my birchir did that when i first switched to shrimp... but he wouldnt eat it... i found about 15 pieces stuffed in a piece of slate i use to hide the air wand... as cohazard said he was a shrimp hoarder.

^ Not to be rude at all, and I have waited a while to see if it changed... but I keep seeing you put an extra 'r' in "bichir"... I'm just wondering why?
:)

Thats a common spelling of bichir in european countries

Damn, I did miss that huh? Well it seems everyone understands the implication of such a behavior, the fish will swim to a spot to feel more secure if it feels vulnerable where it 'caught' the food.

Not all of my bichirs do that, and if they do, it's usually because my cat Anabelle jumped onto the top of the tank or my nephew is jumping around in my room lol

Good catch dbcb, King-eL also pointed out I didn't bring up activity levels. I can't really come up with an explanation for the difference between upper jaws and lower jaws.

Why don't we kick around some ideas on the subject? :)

I was just wondering because I have seen that before and never understood it.
