a 150, fluval FX5 plus whatever fluvals i have laying around, 6' double bright lighting, some sand in bottom (so far planning estes' plain white marine sand), a pair of reticulatus, a pair of albino Polypterus senegalus, a pile of driftwood at one end for the bichirs, weekly 50% water changes (my water comes in at 6.6 or so and soft), frozen foods and maybe hikari sinking carnivore pellets and new life spectrum. fishless cycling, then the bichirs first since i already have them (they are both about 6-7"). then the biggest retics i can find (probably just 4" or so) that i know are eating frozen already. will it be an issue if i get one ray and then wait (hopefully not too long) before getting the second?

A pair of retics will be great in a 150:headbang2
I'd add another large external filter though or even better a sump.
No worries about adding one ray at first then the other later :)

thats fine, but is that just to keep the male from being too persistant with the one female? i have read something about rays and bichirs and it sounded like sometimes there could be problems, possibly depending on relative size, is that going to be an issue with this tank? there is a fluval 303 and a 404 on there now and i can still use both of those, possibly adding another 404 or 405 i have sitting around. what sand should i use? i looked at the estes' marine sand on either thatpetplace or bigals and it said it helps to keep pH appropriate, but thats what i have heard recommended for freshwater rays. its not going to be that much, so is it nothing to worry about, or should i find some other type of sand?

rays and bichirs are to do with size i think. ive seen many people keep them together
