i want the xp3 just for my 30 gallon... i do not want the xp1 or xp2.....if the current was too strong, i can always turn down the flow by the valve.... is this correct, can some1 confirm this for me before i buy it?And if i put it on the lowest, it wold still be safe right?

yes there is a valve you can turn on the outlet side that controls the amount of water that is fed out but its on a 10" rod with tiny holes so even at all the way open its rather smooth coming out. Now to answer your question on going with the xp3 you will be fine. I have a 80 gallon custom 40-20-21 and i have a XP3 and a AC70 and the water is crystal clear...

and potscrubbers ad lava rock are te best choice for media?potscrubers... do they make those special for filter media or do i go to any grocery store?

I think the xp2 would be plenty though. I would use the ceramic ring or the bio stars that rena sells for that purphose.

the xp3 is great but I think its to much for that tank. You will have huge water flow (if that is what you want then fine). Yes you can adjust the flow with the valve.
