I have 4 RBP's in a 55 gallon grow out tank. The Red bellies are approx 4-5 inches apiece right now. I have a magnum 350 and a penguin 350 on my 55 gallon right now. Is that ok? too much? too little? The fish look like they are really happy and healthy, but i was just curious if my filtration amount was in the right ball park.

Sounds fine to me.

filtration ok. size of tank. not so ok. theres a rule i believe it is 20 gallons per fish. look it up on the piranha section.

Thanks. I'm moving them up to a 150 gallon tank in a few months, i just hope someone doesn't get eaten first :)....what setup for filtration would you recommend for the 150 tank for the 4 RBP's?

Probably two larger Canisters; something like the Rena XP3/4, Marineland C-360 or a couple Eheims.

Well unless you test your water parameters there is no way to really know. Basically all the "looks good" and "sounds great" comments are useless.

I had a 65g RBP tank and a bio filtration the 350 penguin provided was not enough. Considering the biofiltration that the magnum 350 has, I would say your borderline at best.

i have a 125 with 2 ac110's and a fx5. i think that should be good for a 150. just load up the fx5 with all bio media.

QFT. If you have no ammonia/nitrite present, and the water is clear, you are ok. If not, you need more filtration. A master test kit will tell you very quickly how good your filtration is doing. Also, remember your RBPs are growing, so what may be good for now may not be good tomorrow.

For a 150, I don't think you will have enough water movement to move poop into the filters with a magnum 350 and a penguin 350. You will probably want to get a powerhead or a larger canister filter later on.
