I am going to be starting to get my 360 gallon tank going and after doing some research I think that going with a sump filtration system would be the most economical way to go.
I do not know how big of a sump system I should use, so far I am thinking that I am going to use two 3 drawer storage containers ( one on each side below the tank ) and connected onto those possibly 2 more totes for each 3 drawer storage system ( not sure how many gallons they should be)
this is going to take a little bit to get finished but I will take some pics and post another thread once it is all complete ( will be within the next month or two)
Now then I need to know some good brands of pumps that are going to last quite awhile but are not crazy expensive, I have been thinking about maybe "quiet one" pumps( I am going to run 2 pumps one for each side of the filtration system ) I am still debating on how many gallons per hour pumps I will need....
My reasoning behind having basically 2 seperated sump wet/dry systems is naturally more filtration and if one pump goes out I still have the other side up and going. ( I am going to have shut off valves on the plumbing for power outages)
I have also ran new water lines ( hot and cold) that are right where the tank is going to be to help with water changes, eventually I am going to get a Y to join the lines together and then buy a fridge water filter ( cheap and last a long time ) and I also ran a drain directley underneath my stand so I can have a 24/7 water changer

Now Part 2
I am thinking about using black sand as substrate, will this be a problem with the filtration I talked about above? I just do not want any sand to make its way into a pump and burn it up.
Filtration media: I am going to use quilt batting, pot scrubbies, bio balls, filter floss, sponges
( I am new to sumps and I think this will keep my water fairly clear, but if it isn't clear I will install a filter sock )
for right now the stock is going to be a albino tiger oscar, red oscar, 2 JD's, channel catfish. ( for now, going to build a indoor pond for the fish listed here this spring)
In the next month or so I am going to be buying some Umbee at about an inch long and grow them out in a 50 gallon and once they get some size on them put them in the 360 ( most likely I will have a pond done before that )
I appreciate all the help and feel free to post any questions , concerns, comments
