i am new to breading fish and i have only had 2 batches of fry my first one was 1-4-2010 i was smart and made a plastic mesh strainer to make the holes of the intake tube on the filter smaller everything worked great =) on the second batch i was like... well this sponge(normal kitchen dish sponge) will work for this well it didnt it decomposed in the water and the fish were eating it and some got sucked into the filter i lost about half of the fry and fixed the problem use the right thing to make the fliter holes smaller (i know i am new but this might be usefull to someone)

Right. Cellulite breaks down. The plastic sponges don't. I also learned this the fun way, but I didn't lose any fish because I just tried it in my HOB filter. Makes a royal mess, doesn't it?

Thats why on the packages it says not for aquarium use lol, and the plastic ones are deff the way to go as far as that.
