The silly tank, the resurrection

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well after 9 months I've still not got the cash to extend the house and therefore find somewhere to put it. Anyway our next door neighbor Dan(made a brief appearance in my pond thread) mentioned that he'd been thinking about a getting a tank and rather than see the tank unused I thought he could have this one.

He's got a long AV type storage unit under his TV and after a quick measure it almost fits(in this case almost is close enough).

So after a healthy clean out of the tank, substrate removed and cleaned and the glass scrubbed, we had a test filling and it still holds water.

All the AV stuff was unplugged and to get the tank to sit under the TV the legs had to come off(power saw). Then it was time to brace it up. A large cross brace was added to the rear and two more up legs added over the top for more strength. The up posts probably would have held it up but there was a huge risk that it could simple topple over hence all the extra bracing.

Setup in place:

There is a bit to do yet, the hood need fixing all the bit are now in place for that and he needs to get a filter(canister) and then he's good to go, I think he's going to keep schools of tetras and guppies in it.

Updates when they happen as the cost of the above is out of my control.

Shameless post to show off my GGs, the little one has just been added to my main tank:

and then?
Sorry the site has had problems with new threads, I've been trying to post for a few days, just testing.

How hard is it to :chillpill: for a minute?

nice set up :) how many gallons is that silly tank of yours? :)

:headbang2Yeah!

Looks cool. It would be great on a big fireplace mantle, or a long sofa table behind a couch....or on a big entertainment center...oh wait, you did that.... What are the deminsions of that tank?

Seems like you'd need to be very careful about how you support that unique tank.

Not enough end support and too much middle support and... boom!

That would make a very good reef or planted tank. A nice shoaling species would be excellent. Do you know what this tank was used for in the past?

I think it worked out at around 33-35usg, thanks, I'm just glad I've found a use for it even if it is next door.

Now that's monster, I've ran out of tank space so I'm now filling up next door's house as well;)

The stand has been modified, you can't see it but there is a cross brace across the whole length of the unit and 2 more vertical braces at 1/3 and 2/3 across the unit.

As this is his first tank, he's going with a large school of tetra's (last time I spoke to him). The canister is coming a week after next, media free. This will be the only cost apart from the fish as the tank was free, I've got spare heaters and media.

It's going to be put on a power cycle when setup, filled with only dirty water from my other tanks.

As for the tank's history all I know is that before I had it it was used for breeding L046. If you look in the first picture(link) it had a tube running the length of the tank which was attached to a powerhead at the other making it a river tank.
