My Ex had a very cute little figure 8 puffer. I had helped her set up the tank. IE i did it at her request. When i broke up with her she didnt want it anymore. It was in a 10g (it was still a juvee)

It is now in a larger tank with a few other fish happily hunting shrimp and snails.

So i have a 10g left over and the itch to start up another tank... (a horrible itch that cuts into the gun and ammo budget but both are so much fun)

What should i do?

If your planning on keeping the puffer, then starting up a little cray feeder tank with a marble cray could be a good idea, this way you save having to buy as many crunchy foods for your puffer...

How big is your larger tank? If you have a craving theres no stopping it till you get what you want! I'd go for the bigger tank, I really like my 180. Big but easily managed.
I reckon I'd love a puffer. They seem really neat. Id do the crunchy tank too, keep the little fella happy.

The tank is a 54g bowfront. Currently in it are a 8.5 inch common pleco who owns the tank named Tim. The puffer. A lepard ctenopoma named kurbi who actually put the puffer in its place and vica versa (i was scared at first because ctenopoma are little cowards but both seem scared of each other at this point *kinda funny actually, Though i dont recomend anyone eles trying this combo) a few ghost shrimp who hide in constant fear as their numbers slowly fall, and some small dither fish experiancing the same.

It is the juvee tank for my common pleco who will get a bigger tank once i finish college and move out of my current apt. (a year) So i would rather get the bigger tank once i move to a more permanant spot.

That being said a tank to grow food for the little guy seems like an interesting idea. Wont any cray i get just tear appart anything in the food tank? (though a cray sounds like fun)

If i do a food tank what crunchy bits would you suggest breeding other than snails?

Crayfish tank, With a very small budget and necessities only to save more money for range fees and ammo.

hmm This combined with the last idea is very very appealing. (gah the cost of ammo today buck a bullet for my favorite rifle *shudders*)

so the question it seems invovles to what can be kept with a cray that will be able to breed fast enough to keep the cray entertained and perhaps provide treats for the figure 8 puffer and the ctenopoma.

I guess guppies are a no brainer for one. But what eles in the way of crunchy bits?

****************EDITED******

Ah i just realized what marble crays are... DAMN THAT IS COOL

so the cray itself is the food source. so i will set up a marble cray tank with a bunch of snails. for a nice low price then go a shoot away the savings. That seems perfect. YAY

thanks for the input guys

Probably the wrong place to ask this question but how do marble crayfish taste... i mean the regular crayfish you buy and boil are good. im just thinking if this cray doesnt eat its young it would be easy to farm and drop the costs of catching... so yea can you eat marbled crayfish? and if anyone has tried how do they taste?

^ Honestly, i'm not sure if any one has ever eaten marble crays, since they tend to stay pretty small compared to some of the other species... not including miniature crays obviously... also, i think people are kinda worried to eat fish from an aquarium since to be honest, we don't know what other people put in their tanks...

As for the adults eating their young, personally, my marble doesn't seem to bother its offspring, infact its already berried the 2nd time and most of its first offspring are still in the tank growing steadily till i move them out to the main tank... just be sure to keep them well fed and they should be okay...
