Something tells me that it won't work as planned in Florida. I also don't think they realize the importance of the nutrient export through the plants that "hide" the filter.
I found it to be convenient that you don't have to clean the filter, of course how could you clean the filter?
Anybody who has ever used Jap Mat type media knows you have to clean it out occasionally...

It's just a moving media biological media filter.
It's ok for a small pond, but forget a tank, too slow of a turnover rate and poor particulate filtration.
