I was sitting by my tank the other night and hear glass cracking. Talk about a heart stopping noise! I look over and watch the canopy (24x12) on the right side weave its way to the bottom in the center with fish dodging it all the way. The real scary thing is the day before I was wondering if that happened if any fish would get butchered. If I get any spontanious thoughts about the lottery I'm buying tickets. I think the metal halide light was too close and heated the glass and some water splashed on it. I broke one two weeks ago taking it out after it had been under the light for a while. When I took another one out some water dripped on the first one and snap. Luckily they were on the ground when that happened.

I'm glad the tank is ok.

i am glad fish and tank are okay...that was close....

thats bizarre that it would break in half like that... ive accidentally dropped my glass tops in a few times while moving stuff. scares me every time. btw joeyballz... what kind of sd's are those... i saw a few the other day at a lfs and was wondering if they maybe lost there spots as they got bigger? how big are your?

i know what you mean, i had a python with a glass lid and the light got knocked over and broke the glass into a million pieces, than god the snake was on the other end of the tank

I would be concerned about that much heat in your hood. Is it wooden? How far are your MH's from the glass? I use 3/32" glass with my 175W MH's and the glass never gets that hot, I've got about 2-3" clearance between the glass and bulb.
