The tank is 30"x12.5"x16". I still need to get more sand, mix in some smaller gravel, get some larger rocks, put the drift wood in the tank and plant it.

Here's one of the pieces of drift wood I'm going to use. How long should I boil it for?

I hope to make it look similar to this tank:

I have played with the idea of a native river tank for a while. Can't wait to see how it comes.

In regards to the wood, was it taken from a stream/lake? Was it submerged? Try to weigh it down with a slate base. I have boiled small pieces for 30 minutes to ensure it was "cleaned" of any organisms.

I got it from a lake and it was on the beach. I guess I'll try 30 minutes. The reason I'm asking is because some people say 15 minutes and some say like 2 hours so idk.

Also is this going to damage a stainless steel pot? My mom would kill me if I ruined it.:D

Won't damage the pot if it is stainless, may want to give a warning what your "cooking". Try to have it fully submerged. But like I said, you may have to weigh it down if it was not waterlogged. Good luck

You dont have to boil them.....ive put driftwood in plastic containers filled with saltwater in the sun for 3-5 days then I would soak them in dechlorinated water for another couple of days and my fish have never died or complained, (at least I couldnt hear them). Driftwood really makes the aquarium.

i boiled mine for a good 30 mins to an hour and then let the soak submerged in a 40 g breeder for like a week then put then in my 150 the water in my 40 turned a little brown but not in the 150 good luck what are you planning on having in it?

I'm planning on stocking it with minnows, darters and maybe some baby bass or sunfish.
