A nice lake full of game fish!

Tank: 48 x 18 x 30, painted black on the back.

Thick red lava rock wall bottom to the surface across the entire back.
Gravel on the bottom.

Assorted Loaches (Blue, Yo-Yo, Cown, Skunk) to play in the rock
A team of Pleco type catfish.
A single, bass like African Cichlid.

For filtration, I was thinking a team of two Penn Plax Cascade 1000s on either side and a single Marineland Penguin 350B Power Filter in the middle.


This my friends is my goal for my 40th birthday.

Thoughts? :)
 
nice anyone with the cash for an avatar is gonna have a kick ass tank
 
In a tall tank, you have a whole stock list of bottom dwellers (except the cichlid). the top 4/5 of your tank is going to be empty. I'd think about picking up some top and mid-water fish, otherwise your tank is always going to look empty.

Good point, however - i have the exact setup in a smaller format right now, and the loaches are all over the place! trust me. They beg for food at the surface all the time.

In fact, they travell in packs, like eels through the rock at all levels.

110's are impressive in person very neat tanks. I like the stock list. You can always add fish if there isn't activity at the top sounds like you know whats up though.
 
Loaches are wildly entertaining. They are always on the move and love to play.

I have a Blue loach that is outstanding.

In any event, now i need to start saving funds... but the tank will be mine, and I will document my stand build here.
 
If your planning on buying the Cascade filters new, I would skip it and buy something better. I own a Cascade 1000 and 1200 and aren't as impressed as I hoped. They do seem to have some bypass problems (prefiltered water can just move around the media baskets without actually going through them).

I see PETCO has 1 cascade 1000 for $150 (thus 2 @ $300). DrFosterSMith has Fluval FX5 (900 GPH !!!) for $300.
