alright i will begin to say i was letting my grey triggerfish go at the jetties today. it was a beautiful sunset, the waves were almost nonexistent.
as a waded out to my knees the waves lapped at my legs a calm warm breeze came out of the south... the perfect evening. i reached into the net i towed out with me and pulled my little friend out to release him. i was pretty heart broken that he was unhappy in captivity. i only had him for a week. he was already trained to stick his lips out of the water when he wanted food. as i lowerd it into the water i felt a horrible pain erupt from my hand... i let go and pulled my hand up. the thing bit me AGAIN!!!!
i was bleeding from the cookie cutter like wound pretty badly! gotta love those triggerfish!

anyway this is one of those posts that contains the little things on my mind that i dont have room for when i comment threads

#1 The types of fishkeepers I hate! ( im sure all of us know some of these) 1. the people that think they keep fish... by which they mean a ten gallon with three guppies and the light hasnt been turned on for months the filter is probly clogged beyond repair and the original color of the gravel is unknown.
2.those people that have a real nice fish and treat it like ****. im talkin that 10" silver arowana in a 40g tall with 6" of water evaporated the fish has drop eye , fin rot , and ammo burn. it constantly paces waiting for its monthly meal of a piece of a peice of chicken. then those people brag that the fish is doing GREAT! :irked::cry:
3. those that start a 20g tank and buy a oscar or a pacu or a aro, or a peacock bass etc. and say that theyre only putting it in until they get big, and must think a whale shark barely meets the mark of big because the fish is dying in its own waste three years later in the same tank.
4 the people that put a 5'' oscar and a bala shark in a 12g together:WHOA: because the oscar killed a goldfish in their 35g. and they intend to keep that fish in these conditions for the rest of its life. true story!
5. the saltwater reef tank owner that thinks he's WAY better than anyone in the hobby because he can afford a 200w metal halide light fixture and a few priceless corals.

#2 3 ways to test your lfs for quality. 1. does your lfs ask about the fish you keep? do they want to know what kind of tanks you like? they should because this makes it easier for them to make suggestions or answer questions. the workers at my lfs ask me how my 55 is doing every time i walk into the store. 2.does your lfs try to sell fish at any cost? would your lfs sell a newbie a mandarin dragonet, or a long nose filefish without telling them it would probly die in thier tank. or let you put a jaguar cichlid in a tetra tank without telling you it would mean a sure death for all the tetras. if they do the workers are just there to get a paycheck and care nothing about the well being of your fish... or aquariums in general.
3.would your lfs workers look up a fish that they didnt know about if you asked a question about it. this is usually a sign that they want to halp you as much as possible.

#3 am i the only one that noticed when you put a spray nossle of a hose in to the water when you filling a bucket and you put the tip of the sprayer flat against the bottom whil its on full blast it kind of sticks to the bottom a little bit? it has to be flat though. the hose will be held in place for a while.

these are the things that are to small for thier own thred but to big for a post comment.

re #1: I don't hate on any fishkeepers, but when I come across ignorance, I try to educate . . . I've made a lot of mistakes myself over the years

re #2: my LFS does the best they can. they have ordered me fish when I've asked, and they have taken several good fish in trade for $$$ . . . they have taken fish that I know they won't be able to sell (12" pleco, for example) . . . they have asked me about the fish I have bought from them, to make sure they are doing well . . . they remember me and always say "hello" when I come in, even tho' I don't always buy anything, often I'm just looking . . .

pretty sure they wouldn't sell just anything to anyone, but I can't say first-hand . . . I will add that the one time that I told an employee that a fish was mis-labeled, he told me it wasn't; I blew it off, but later that day I was back in the store to pick the fish up and the same employee made a point of telling me he had looked it up and that I was right . . . so, that's good

re #3: I'll try it . . .

It's illegal and irresponsible to release aquarium fish into the wild. This is why there is pending legislation to ban the import of exotic species. I think I'd consider looking inward at your own practices before ranting about what other people are doing.

:iagree:100%

The ONLY thing your thread can accomplish is destroying the hobby for every aquarist in the US. How many times does "NEVER RELEASE A CAPTIVE FISH BACK TO THE WILD" have to be posted? Thread closed.
