Right guy's have cycled my tank and the manager at the fish store is happy I've done everything correctly, I went to the shop last night and he had 3 motoros in for £110 and 3 retics for £89, I never realised how lovely they looked for the so called "cheap" ray's, I was really considering getting one so as my first ray I know everyone will probably say motoro but how much more difficult are these to keep? Or am I just wasting my time even thinking about a retic?

Cheers!

Never owned a ray ( hopefully this will change soon) But have had a few Retics at work that I've had to deal with. I've never had a big issue with keeping them at the store ( alot of this has to do with the forums here and info I've gotten just looking threw threads).

We always start them on live blackworms or ghost shrimp to bulk them up. Then get them onto frozen bloodworms, and intigrate other foods from there depending how long we have them. I've heard some are very challenegeing to get off live foods, but I've honestly only had one that was a brat ( and he was on frozen after about 3 monthes)

I plan on starting with Retics or Hystrix down the road. I've seen an adult female Motoro. literally as big as trash-can lid. If you have the space for them Thats great. If not retics aren't anywhere near as hard to keep now-adays with how much good info is out there on rays in general and knowledgeable people particularly on this site.

check which are eating and half the battle is over ( provided you choose the eating one :D )

retic or motoro id be happy with either . you dont see many larger retics either

have them throw pellots in there and see wich one eats them then choose that one. if none eat pellots try tilapia and prawns, then choose out of that group. if none eat that then throw in cut up night crawlers. and if none are eating any of these try black worms and hope at least one of them eat that.

when choosing your first ray its very important to choose one that is healthy and eating a variety of things. you will have enough to worry about with you wondering how your water is and is that death curl when its just the current. theres too much already stressing you as well as the ray out so picking a great easy feeding ray is a must and will give you a whole lot better chance of becoming a good ray keeper.

after you have had your first ray for a few months succesfullly and have gone through a few challanges then you can start challenging yourself by buying one based on looks and not the greatest eater. but right now the best for you and the ray would to buy the healthy one.

lots of people here to answer questions when you have them and also the stickies and search feature are great to play with as most of your questions have already been answered before you ask them. i have seen far too many people buy the one that looks better or is cheaper rather than the healthy one. then a month down the road they done post anymore.

so good luck and show pics weather its the retic or motoro they are both good rays just try to get the better eater and get your wc's in a routine and you will both be happy.
