Damn it all lost another fish to a Festae...

It all started this morning I was going about my usual sunday busniess doing waterchanges and such. I was changing the water in my 125 gallon tank. The tank contains a few young adult cichlids. The most notable being a 7" wild male festae and a 7" wild male midas that I just got two weeks ago.

Well anyway I did a 50 percent waterchange. In the process I moved a rock from the midas' territory to the festaes territotry. I do this every now and then just to mix things up and keep aggresion down. I finished the waterchange and then moved onto a tank in another room. About an half an hour later I came in to check on the fish. And found the festae picking at the mauled body of the midas. This is very upsetting considering the midas cost me 50 bucks.

So take this as a lesson dont keep festae with any other fish of value unless your tank is atleast 180 gallons or the other fish is a dovii, trimac, umbie or motaguensis. Those species are the only ones I have found that can take/dominate an equal sized festae.

you don't think loiselleis and freddis are in the same class as motas?

Thats my mistake for leaving out freddis as they have no problems with festae. Loiselli however are another story most are very passive.

Eeks sorry about the loss. Death due to aggression is part of the territory with
cichlids however. Didnt know that festaes can take down Midas their size..

Baddfish had a 8" male festae win equal terms with a 13" trimac in his pond... they fought, and the trimac came down with more scars. It led to a truce, last i heard of it.

I have to give more respect to festaes. . Trimacs arent exactly pushovers.
