Leopard Geckos are one of the most kept kinds of reptiles. They have a price range of 20$ for a normal to 3000$ for a high class morph such as the emerine. The leopard gecko hobby is very dynamic since we regularly see new morphs coming form great breeders.
Care.
Housing
Leopard geckos need a tank size of a tank that is 24x12x12 for a breeding pair
Substrate
Here is the list of substrate choices. Each have advantages and disadvantages.
Bare Enclosure
ADVANTAGES: No replacement, Easy to heat
DISADVANTAGES: Unnatural looking, Hard to clean
Newspaper/ Newsprint
ADVANTAGES: Cheap, Easy to clean.
DISADVANTAGES: Unsightly and unnatural looking.
Ceramic Floor Tiles
ADVANTAGES: Attractive, Easy to clean, Good heat conductor
DISADVANTAGES:Needs a diamond saw to cut them to the needed size.
Play Sand
ADVANTAGES: Easy to replace, Looks nice
DISADVANTAGES: Hard to heat, Small dust particles may irritate your leopard gecko
Reptile Calcium Sands
ADVANTAGES: Looks nice, Provides a source of calcium
DISADVANTAGES: Can cause impaction especially in juveniles and hatchings.
Stone Slabs
ADVANTAGES: Looks nice, Easy to clean
DISADVANTAGES: Cannot be heated by an under tank heater, Very heavy it may cause a tank to break
Sandy Soils
ADVANTAGES: Allows growth of plants,
DISADVANTAGES: Cannot be heated by a under tank heater unless a thin layer is applied.
Shelters
Use commercial reptile burrows, a pot with a hold and some moss inside or you may use a pvc pipe for shelter.
You may add moss or vermiculite for moisture.
Diet
The foods leopard geckos are meal worms, crickets, wax worms, cockroaches according to most breeders the best food is meal worms. Waxworms and pinkies are to be used only during breeding since they are fatty.
Temperature.
Leopard geckos need temperatures of around 74F-94F
