I know it is a type of Goby that gets quite large, and is an ambush pred, but it is a type of sleeper goby so does it also sift sand? i would like to get some live ways of reducing nitrates in my tank, will be adding those Ivy plants to the top of it so the roots also suck out nitrates

Sleeper gobys are not true gobys and dont really have sand sifting members. Jade sleepers are the only ones ive owned that sift sand.I would assume a couple more would aslo but not like true gobys. Jades sift through sand and substrate serching for micro organisms, but spotted sleepers are very predatory and will consume very large prey. They will burrow in sand wich helps release debris from sand but no sifting at all.

oh yeah i knew they were preds, i need fish like that or else they will be eaten in my tank haha. Damn i was really hoping it was a sifter.
