Probably one of my favorites despite his apperance, I'm just a sucker for anything amphilophus. He's built like a pitbull but hes such a little wuss although nobody messes with him.

He was bought as "hybrid cichlid" for $2 around 7 months ago. I went back into the store about 2 months later and asked a employee and he thought the guy who brought them in said the mom was a jagXfestae and the father was a midas/red devil. Who knows, I think it has some parachromis and clearly a lot of amphilophus in it. What do you guys think..?

sounds right to me, there is definitely some Midas/RD in there otherwise he wouldnt be fading at all, fins, body, and face look very Parachromis to me, though the fin pattern does definitely appear managuense. and something about this fish does make it appear to have a bit of festae in it, but i cant put a finger on it, the bars maybe?

The I.D. I got on him might be correct, (manaconda X midas) but I'll never know.

here is a jagXmidas I found on another site which is nice but doesn't have as much color as my guy. http://aquaticfreakshow.com/theshow/index.php?PHPSESSID=d4e39f6fcbf7bfe5f297f6616345a541&topic=209.0

His face is so blunt hes scary but like I said hes never nipped a fin or anything. I cannot wait to see what he ends up looking like as an adult. Who knows how big hes going to get, I'm guessing around 13-14". He's about 7" in todays pictures.

Anybody think hes just a completly ugly hybrid? Thats the response I expected so I won't be offended. I love this fish either way. :D

LOL...but i must say, those 2 fish could be brothers for all we know, when you get into hybrids all the fry will look different, you will never get 2 look-a-likes when mixing cichlids, thats fun in it all.

it looks like a amphilophus midas "barred" x festae lol.
i think it looks cool though.

He is quite interesting looking but definitly cute :)

I've never had a fish peeling at 7" but yeah, hes peeled into something new more than a few times already.
