Maybe someone can explain.

I have a 125 with a bunch of fish 4 of them being yellow labs. I went to petsmart and purchased an Aulonocara hansbaenschi and he/she wasnt even in the tank 5 monites when he/she and my largest yellow lab started what definitly appeared to be breeding (swimming around in circles vibrating just their tails and what appeared to look like they were sniffin eachothers butts) I have seen breeding vids and it looked EXACTLY like that. Is that supposed to happen? If not why did they.

They will breed with anything LOL. All africans seem much more likely to hybridize than other new world cichlids i have kept. Its like their hormones are in overdrive. I had two unrelated hap species that were both males and they tried despertly to spawn LOL. It was crazy. THey are truly horndogs.

PS: your signature is hilarious and so true. I married a cajun 20 yrs ago and we have lived in several states in the south in our military career, we were never welcomed like we have been here in upstate NY.

Sometimes males will do this as a display of dominance/agression. I have had this happen between males before, it looks just like breeding.

I have a hap moori who delights in relations with my red empress

I've had the same thing happen with 2 males, but they looked similar (C afra & juvi S. fryeri) They afra was not happy when the fryeri was introduced, but chilled after about 2 days.

it sounds like a territory dispute "Hey, this is MY yard! get out!" it looks like a breeding stance, but its actually over land lol.
