If one were to have an aquarium or pool or pond big enough and stable enough to maintain say umbees and \ or jaguars and \ or doviis what is the consensus regarding swimming in said aquarium \ pool \ pond?

Do you think they would bite and attack you or would it just be cool to swim with your fish?

I would say it would be fine, although i have no prior experience doing so ;) only swam with a red-tail cat and some pacus in a 750 before and they were fine

but my jags always attack anything in their tank including, fingers, algae brushes, etc, ANYTHING...how big is the tank

I doubt they would attack you unless they were protecting a spawn.

that's generally because the tank isn't big enough for there to be a territory for the jags as well as other open water that isn't considered their territory.

I highly doubt in a huge pond that they would come after you unless they were protecting a spawn which has already been said.

They would bolt at the first sign of someone getting in. Spawning or not. Fish behavior changes dramatically when housed in a natural setting. I haven't swam with cichlids but I have waded in ponds full of them, they disappear fast.

When I get in my 1000gal, the confident at feeding time finger nipping happy silver aro, p bass, dovii, jag, etc all run and hide and don't come anywhere near me so yeah i'd say you're safe. As was pointed earlier, fish tanks are generally too small for a normal sized territory for these fish, hence the aggression. Give them lots of space and they behave more naturally.
