well lately i have noticed these small worms swiming throughout my tank. my fish are fine, but what the hell are these things? i want to add salt and increase alittle heat, will it work?

Ill quote myself from another thread on here:

"Its not unusual when you start up your aquarium, and let it build up its bacterialculture, that these little worms slowly come to life.
Theyre known as planeries (in norwegian anyways..) or tricladida. N. They are completly harmless, but they dont look pretty. Usually people dont see these since most people have lil fishes that eat them, tetras and the like."

If you dont feed your fishies as much as usual, these things should disappear on their own.

planaria are harmless. you will probably see them on the glass too. every healthy system has them its just that in a healthy and well managed aquarium you dont/shouldnt see them without trying.
in a less well managed aquarium they are a sign of over feeding and/or being slack on water changes. think of them as an alarm system that let you know your doing somethign wrong and its giving you time to fix it. vac the gravel thoroughly and water change at least 25% minimum weekly and cut down on the amount of food per feeding.

what fish and will uv sterilizers kill these suckers or any meds that are stingray safe

if im thinking about the same thing, they are little white worms rite?

i really dont know wat they were but back when i used to use alot of a cycle i had them but they have to seem to disappeared but i did stop using cycle. The cycle when u pour it in ur water looks like little white lines but after awhile these little white lines seem to come alive .

Dont know if im in left field but thats my take on ur thread. Hope it helps

no meds or expensive equipment needed. the only thing that is needed is a gravel vac and a bottle of elbow grease. you will always have them and you will never eradicate them because they will keep coming back.

if you can see a lot of them without going out of your way to find them then your doing something wrong. usually overfeeding in most cases but being slack with gravel vaccing is also a cause.

Does anyone have a pic of this? I'm curious too because my tank is infested with these. I just noticed them today. Just did a 50% waterchange today. why would these worms all of a sudden come alive from overfeeding?

if you supply excess food that is sitting in the tank then your giving the worms the means to feed a larger population. when you clean your tank properly and maintain a good feeding regime then you cut down on the food availible so they die out. it just happens they multiply and die out rather quickly, a large population can be visibly gone by the next day or 2.

a 50% water change once because you noticed them, panicked and read this topic wont do any good long term. they will be back. it needs to be done every week. also a really thorough gravel vac at least once a month and reduce the amount of food per feeding. once you have these down to a fine art then you will not see them unless you're trying to find them.

but keep in mind THEY ARE HARMLESS.
