When I set up my guppy tub, I drilled holes in the sides to prevent fry loss from flooding, I threw in fast growing, dense plants and seeded with cyano for greenwater so fry would survive against their parents, and I got a stainless steel mesh lid to allow mosquitoes to pass through but keep dragonflies and birds out.
The lid did its job against birds and dragonflies, I had close to a hundred fish in there last week.
Today I found only 4 alive. Because a foot long rat squeezed itself under the mesh lid and drowned. Its rotting corpse poisoned all but 4 of the fish.
Moral of the story, obviously, there's always things you aren't prepared for.
Lessons I learned: bolt down the lid next time, and instead of persuing aquaculture as a career, perhaps becoming an exterminator would help maintain my sanity.
There went $500 worth of fish I could have sold, now I have to scrape something else up for money because I am not allowed to get an actual job. Christmas gifts for the family and a new guitar gone because a rat decided to off itself and erase 5 months of progress and a few hundred dollars worth of fish.

sucks.....

Wow, who would have expected that to happen, bad timing from the rat to do it just when you were about to sell all the fish too.
