Just dropped a bunch of prawns into my tank and everyone was tucking in when something caught my eye. My (previously thought to be male) Red Zebra cichlid has taken over the main cave in the aquarium over the last 2 weeks and become fiercely territorial. As she came out to feed I saw something flash out from a gap in the rocks. Upon closer inspection there are at least 4 tiny fry living in the small gaps in the rock.
My dilemna is simple: Do I try and move them straight away? I'd love to raise them separately until they're big enough to avoid death, which is surely inevitable as there are two juvenile Oscars as well as a Green Terror plus 5 other Malawis with a beast of an appetite. My problem is that they're safe at the moment as nothing else can touch them in their little gaps. If I lift the rocks there's a high risk of them being picked off immediately.
Any advice? The thought of breeding never crossed my mind until 5 minutes ago but I'd love to see what my little hybrids turn out like!
