I was doing a water change and towards the end I looked into the water I was adding to the tank and saw small larvae looking things twitching in the water. They were about the size of the exclamation mark on your keyboard.

I Dumped the remaining water out scrubbed the container I keep the water in and refilled. Did a water change 2 days later and guess whats back?

I use a rubbermaid garbage can to hold the water as it is being treated. I use API Stress Coat (Fish and Tap Water Conditioner) to treat the water.
A stealth heater to get the water to tank temperature. And an air stone to oxygenate and circulate the sitting water.

Water is never in the can for longer then 2 days before I do a water change. I have no clue what these things are, or where they are comming from.

Any ideas?

Mosquito larva?
My first thought as well. Normally, they show up in any standing water in no time.

are they white? I suspect "over feeding" my friend...

Mosquito larvae was my first thought as well, but I never see a mosquito flying around my house??? Also the water is circulated (maybe not enough). I think I will just be filling up the bucket the day before or day of the water change, from now on.

Why would you think I was putting food in it?:screwy:

i had some type of worm things in my tank once. they didnt seem to do any harm. they disappeared after a few water changes.

because if you overfeed it can cause an infestation of these small worm like thing about 5mm long called planarians.

I am not putting food in the bucket of water I am treating for the water change. There is nothing to feed in the bucket of water. Maybe I wasn't clear... The larvae were in the garbage can full of water that was intended to be put in the tank during the water change, not in the tank itself.

Have done another W/C, and no sign of the larvae. Whatever it was, seems to be gone now.
