hi, could anyone help me with a project i have started in the garage which is to install an aquarium and sump. i have tried a couple of small tanks but on both occasions almost lost my fish to the cold as the heaters couldn't keep up anywhere near the desired temp of 26-27. in fact i woke up one morning to the temp in the tank at 12 deg  will wrapping the tank in polystyrene help? i would be using a 4x2x2 tank and 155ltr sump and will be blocking off the tank in a mostly closed shelf unit, but still not sure if this will be enough:confused: basically will the polystyrene keep the heat from being zapped by the cold? temp at the minute is around 1 deg outside but this is a bit colder than average. cheers in advance.

Are you a transplant to jersey? It took me a minute to realize your tank isn't really 12 degrees its 54 degrees :p

i'd wrap the tank in pink styrofoam from lowes/home depot. Just build a box of it to put around your tank(s). At the very worst wrap the tank in blankets. Anything will help keep heat in.

You need to heat your water almost 30 degrees. You have 150 gallons of water, that might require as much as 3 500w heaters without any insulation.
