So, I have a tank of Msobo deep mbuna. They are a group of 8 that I got from three different sources. It does now appear that every single one of them is male, they are all just now starting to turn blue and black. This is obviously rather annoying. Since I'm a newbie at the rift lake fish I'm wondering if I'm going to have a bloodbath on my hands when they get a bit bigger and more mature. There are small normal fights right now but they are all starting to change color so? Will they kill each other? Do I need to get rid of them, or some of them?

thats rather unfortunate id if there is no females you will be ok id imagine just depends if you have a particular rouge fish. but there will always be top fish and the low ranked guys especially with this many males who will suffer.

Yeah, I'm not real happy about it. I wanted a colony but I don't know. I might trade a bunch in and just go mixed mbuna I'm not sure yet. I got them from three sources, I'm amazed there is not one single female

harder to get females when you do it like that. the best way is to get them all from the same source that way when they dip the net in there you have a better chance at getting females. i ordered some chewere and i got 3 males and 3 females from the bunch. just a little tip for you in the future

wow strange luck on that one. you could look into finding someone who has them and will maybe trade out females for males? I ve done this before

Did you pick the fish your self?
If so did you get the larges fry front the indervidual tanks ? As males will grow faster than the females
If you order them than you would have Only grabbed 2-3 per breeder so I would say they would have given you the larges also witch would have been males
Always grab smaller fish out of a batch if you won't females and larger if you won't males
This is a general rule but there is the odd suprize but it works 90% of the time
