they claom to breed datnoids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I saw that awhile back. I was thinking about getting some fish from them, till I saw that. If you make a claim like that I don't think I want to do business with you.

This place has been discussed here before but they actually did not state that they have bred any dats.

+1 I didn't see anything about breeding them in that species discription. I think if they did then they would have details on how to sex them and how to breed them or atleast provoke breed conditions.

they said these fish are imports OR MAY COME RAISED FROM OUR FARM.

That doesn't really mean they have breed them in that farm. They could have been imported too small to sell so they grow them out to an appropriate size

Raised means they import small fish and grow them out. Common practice for lots of asian bred fish as well as marine species not bred in captivity.

I really don't understand why we don't breed these in captivity. They are related to baramundi which we do breed in captivity. Do they need a brackish condition for spawning as well? Why don't we just use ovaprin like every other difficult to spawn species? I can't find any scientific research on it. Anyone ever find anything on captive or even wild reproduction?

This is a true statement: "My datnoides are wild caught or captive bred by me." The keyword is the "OR" you see? So their claim is technically correct.

...except for this one: "Datnioides microlepis or Gold Tigerfish Born Jan 2012 Nice Bars-Bold from rare breeding pair Good GOLD Color!"

Exactamundo they seem to have made sure not use certain words while at the same time leaving it open for the customer to assume that they breed their dats.
