I've been waiting for this pair to spawn for a couple of months now. Apparently all they needed was a little room of their own! Two days after putting them in my 75 gallon this is what I found...needless to say it made my afternoon!

Yes I know the glass is gross...sorry!

I expect your first batch to be huge! My regular Jds spawned for the first time last week. I would say there were 500-600 babies that first day. Now the batch is down to a couple hundred. I hope you have the same good fortune I did! Any clue as to what your fry should end up looking like?

Congrats. That is a lot of eggs lol How big is she?

Thanks! She's a solid 7". She is one of my favorite fish, very colorful.

There are a ton of eggs! I wasn't expecting her to lay this many, her belly was not round at all. The fry will look like a regular JD but will have the gold gene and possibly the blue gene. My goal is to eventually pair two fish together that have both the blue and gold gene.

holy fish eggs batman! thats alot of eggs. congrats. keeps him busy i guess until i can get the gold female for u :P

It took my regular Dempsey's a few spawns to get it down... once they did, it always looked like a swarm of gnats in the tank swimming around em. As soon as I get the baby Convicts and my Festae out of the divided side of my big tank and into my 40 for a while I'm going to put my EBJD and female Dempsey (I'm not 100% sure she's a BG carrier) on the divided side and hope to get a spawn or 3 out of em and find out if she is or not. Good luck with future spawns.
