my polypterus polli appears to have what look like very fine worms on its body they look like fine short grey hairs I am sure that they are very fine worms if they are is there any medication i could use bearing in mind I have some scale less cat fish in the same tank

They're likely bichir worms common parasite on imported bichirs and from farms.
Praziquantel kills them. Do at least 2 treatments a week in duration. The medicine only treats the adult worm, not the egg/cyst part of the lifecycle. I think Flukesolve is the UK product with that ingredient, double check. The med is safe for sensitive and scaleless fishes.

Nuke with salt. I did a teaspoon per gallon of water and left till they started shedding slime. Many of the worms die and drop off
If it doesn't work then do another round every week till it works.

Prazi is the safest and best treatment.
Salt should be a bath of 4tsp in a gallon in a bucket. Let it sit in it up 30min and return to the main tank. If the fish acts funny or struggling then return to the main tank immediately. May repeat if needed.
