I have 2 small American Dats that are starving to death. They only want feeder goldfish. I figure sooner or later they will eat shrimp or cut fish. Face on me. They looks like they would starve to death first. I moved them to a tank by them selves and gave them frozen blood worms as well as some feeders. They look really bad. I don't think they are going to make it.

How big are they? and how long has it been since they ate last?

whos the boss in you house you or the tigers

dont feed anymore feeders its as simple as that

i have a thin bar that will only eat river shrimp i feed the live shrimp once per month if thats all he wants to eat hes a fool

Don't panic, tigers can go along timw without food, as long as they are not wafer thin to start with. when I say that, I mean you can see skull definition under the sin near the head region.
A bit mor info on tank mates, filtration and lighting would be useful. however, eventually he they will give in. so feed once a month, some river shrimp. Get themoff gold fish altogether. then start try ing prawns, then bloodworms.
Be warned though, it can take months, 2 or 3 in my experience.

I went through the same problem with my DATS. i would start with frozen blood worm cubes. 1-2 each day for say 2 wks. then try the frozen market shrimp. you could then switch to pellets if you want. i use this method with all of my fish and it works.

Easiest way for me is to use ghost shrimp first. The dat will chase the shrimp but also get a taste for it. Go ahead and feed a couple a day until the fish recognizes your presence as feeding time. Go ahead and stuff them till their full. Now go ahead and try the starving period only offering food you want them to eat. Freeze dried shrimp/krill and frozen market shrimp being the easiest and most acceppted. Also helps if you have other fast swimming fish in the tank as most dats will eat out of pure competition. Like stated above dats can go quite awhile without food. I've starved NGT's for over 2 months with no food. Good luck and keep us posted with which ever method you decide to use
