I made some phone calls and they've successfully spawned them in big ponds 50' by 20' by 4'. I couldn't get much out of the guy (he buys from them so is a second party to the operation), but he tells me there's a lot of mud in there, and that they aren't using any hormones or other stimulants as far as he knows. Only in the past three years or so has he seen batches of fry come in that were close to the same size. Before that they were all wild caught. He also warned me that they could be sterilizing these fry before shipping them. So I think I'm going to move the pair I have from the 75gal tank into the big black pond and add some pool filter sand to make a bank for them. A little parrot's feather and water lettuce, maybe some more elodea and lots of daphnia breeding in a net somewhere had darn well better get them in the mood. I don't have a catfish-ese version of Barry White, so I'm doing my best here. Dang Asia with its ninja fish secrets!
