Hey all,

I'm thinking about building my next aquarium. I think I can save a lot of money and get a bigger tank doing it this way. However, I have a quick question before going to far into the project.

Does anyone have hard numbers, or even suggestions, on the ratio between Gallons in the tank vs. thickness of Acrylic?

Thanks for your help

There is a mathamatical calculations that you can do to calculate the thickness you need, just do a google search on diy acrylic tanks and they will give you the needed equations to figure things out.

24" high tanks will need 3/8-1/2" glass. 30" high tanks will need roughly 4/8-6/8. Go thicker if you have heavy tank busters such as Pacu.

Gallons does not determine the thickness, it's height, and to a lesser extent, length (unless you run center brace(s))
