I have noticed all the aquarium pictures that are posted in this forum that most tanks have placed very thin layer of gravel and some don't even have any gravel at the bottom of the tank. I would like to know which would be better, thick or thin layer of gravel?

Thank you.

(Thought I replied to this already...ah well)

A very thin layer makes cleaning easier - you don't have to vacuum through a thick layer of gravel then. Bare bottom makes the cleaning even easier. :)

This is a trick question. You may have fish that require a deep gravel layer such as sand sifters, geophagus, diggers etc.

Ah, that's true enough. :) Eventually, it would be up to you to decide what thickness you want for your fish.

Just keep in mind that a thick layer of gravel requires quite some work in terms of gravel vacuuming. ;)

i have a thin layer just enuf to cover the bottom. easy to clean and looks better then bare. IMO

a thin layer of gravel is easier to keep clean like everyone else said. a thicker layer is sometimes used for sand sifters or planted tanks. most go with thinner layers,as live plants are usually not an option with the fish they keep, and its easier to keep clean, plus its cheaper to buy less.
