Hey guys just wondering if it's possible to have a pike cichlid (Crenicichla lepidota) with two thin bar dats...the pike is alil smaller then the dats and i have some medical salt in the tank for the dats...can the pikes handle the salt? Any info would be amazing thanks!

You are using salt for the dats for medicinal reasons? The thin bars are fine without salt. The silvers and ngts are the ones that need/prefer salt in their water.

keeping dats with cichlids (or anything with cichlids for that matter) is all trial and error. there is no sure fire formula or combination that will work every time. what works for one person may or may not work for another. you can try it out but keep a very close eye and make sure to have a back up plan in case the pikes are too aggressive towards the dats.

I've seen atleast 2 threads on here where pikes constantly attacked dats. My pike had to go for that reason, it would NOT leave the dat alone, but as jason said i'm sure it could work in certain cases with certain fish.

i will be getting another dat so it will be two thin bars and the cichilid pike , right now the dat is more dominate, both dats are bigger then the pike...my main concern is, will some salt be harmful to the pike?

Marco gave me his...but theres a wide bar at dragon aquarium in missisauga, you should check it out ...the only thing is it already has ick the wide bar at d.a so you have to treat it b4 anything else

Do what I do, keep 10 dats in one tank with a 3" Johanna pikes lol

It works for me, 9" pike and 4-5" dat, but then again my 12"ish aro backs down to the dat who is a real thug of a fish..
