What are the chances that a thin bar in a lfs that is unstable would become more stable if I brought it home?

The lfs has some nice size thin bars that are eating krill and off of live but they are very unstable and ugly brown:irked:

So tempting :nilly:

Your chances are pretty good, I have found that most NTT will stable up fairly easily. You could hold out for a nice NGT but it's going to cost more if they are the same size.

there is a good chance i bought my 3 ntts unstable and after a few days in my tank they all turned stable

I would say the chances are very high. Every one of the dark dats that I have purchased have stabilized once in a better more stable environment. Although with my indo, it took a tank with lots of dither fish to make him stable.

The 3x NTT from Pet Vendors? I wouldn't risk it, those things were breathing pretty heavily when I saw them and I heard NTT are not the hardiest. As for being stable, dats can stable up instantly. Check out Fantastic Fins, they have indos for $35, silvers, and a NGT for $120.

from my bit of experience having dats its a crapshoot...some will stable up for you right away some never will...what worked for me is dither fish...my 8 dats were ALWAYS hiding and unstable. I put some silver dollars and angels and after about a week they are all coming out now slowly but surely and even my 2 shy NTTS are out and about and stabling up nicely..you just have to have patience they will come around

Yup now I am toatally on the fence lol I have 3 red hooks and 3 tinfoils so dithers will not be a problem..... grrr

I am concerned about thinbars being sensitive I had a 4-5 inch ntt die for what seems like no reason very suddenly about 1 year ago

Looks like I will think on it some more :)
