ok so my brother in law gave me his tank with a 12 year old oscar in it and i have noticed some times he swims completly upside down and on his sides and also goes straight nose down towards the gravel. then last night right after dinner i was watching him and noticed he started spazzing out like a person having a seizer for like 2-5 min then out of the blue start attacking the fake tree root i have in the tank. so any one else have "old" fish that does weird stuff??

Well, i do have a 12/13 yr old polleni although i wouldn't say he has strange behavior per se, he does have a tendency to sleep underneath the in-tank filter which i always found funny since he can barely fit under there, as in he has to lay almost sideways to fit underneath...

I had to put one of my large blue gouramis down using the clove oil/vodka method because of him spazzing out, the way you say your oscar does.

At first the poor guy was fine, just had a "seizure" every hour or so, but it got so bad that he was bashing his head into the glass/ornaments, and eventually became a bloody bruised up mess... he was literally beating the hell out of himself. It wasn't a water issue because I was testing and the water was perfect. Also wasn't a parasite issue because I had not intoduced any other fish in years and never fed live food. He was around 5 1/2 years old, felt bad for him so I put him down.
